Tesla’s Model S receives Motor Trend’s Car of the Year Award. It is the first time in the award’s 64-year history that this honor was bestowed upon an automobile not powered by an internal combustion engine. It is also the first time anyone can remember that the winner was chosen by unanimous decision. We are thrilled and humbled that the effort and sacrifice put forth by the Tesla team has been recognized by one of the most prestigious awards in the automotive industry. Watch as Motor Trend’s Editor-in-Chief Edward Loh presents the award to Tesla CEO Elon Musk at this special event in New York City.

I can’t wait for the 35k version to come out.

casey spacey says:

the guy doing the intro is really awful.

Mr Cars says:

there has never been a car that was the best… until the Model S.

what a time to be alive

kky7972 says:

hah wow so much hate buddy. watch the high blood pressure!

vvysoc says:

is it me or the motor tend presenter has different height shoulders

Grahamaan27 says:

and handing it over to coal. oh well, its cheaper!

Pierre WATTRÉ says:

Information of $30k car was from Elon Musk. Something he keeps repeating
since 2009.

geoffp13 says:

@SuperStormyLynn What an arrogant ass you are…you’re probably a 12 year
old kid!

Priyan De Silva says:

Wow, I’m surprised I received many negative votes. I am seriously thrilled
about this car and the potentials for energy efficient transportation and
the use of renewable energy.

Daniel B says:

Please come to Israel!

leerman22 says:

Its a Tesla Coil transmitting and a Tesla Coil receiving at the same
frequency. Nothing special just expensive (until nuclear fusion kicks in).

mobcat40 says:

I think an even more immediate point is that our current power plants are
more than 2x as efficient at producing energy than your car can ever be so
it’s great to not be doing that in your vehicle as a way to reduce
pollutants. That being said solar power and other tech can move it even
cleaner once that whole infrastructure is in place.

lucirz says:

elon musk is a horrible speaker lol…if he spoke as great a steve jobs,
tesla would be selling like pancakes

SenOrtega says:

Elon Musk = Real life Tony Stark…Tesla, SpaceX everyone else is in the
past. A truly amazing man and companies. True Visionary!

resistance〈squared〉 says:

The 4Ah cells are also 20% heavier, the number of cells in the 40kWh is
exactly the same as in the 85kWh, they are just using older cheaper cells.
And there is no information about the price of the 4Ah cell, which uses an
new silicon anode, and is likely more expensive than the 3.1Ah used only in
the 60 and 85kWh packs.

Howard Marks says:

As I explain above night time power plants produce loads of unused energy
as it is too difficult for them to power down and back up before morning.
So loads of energy already there plus oil refining uses lots of electricity
so less of that shifts over to EVs.

QuantumBraced says:

I love Tesla and Elon, but that first introduction guy is quite insane.
They should have just had Elon do the whole speech.

verrjenn says:

Mr Mackenzie oughta be in the cover of Details/GQ magazine. He looks sharp
than the rest!

Savos Aren says:

Not necessarily, Panasonic is releasing their new 4Ah cell soon. It is 30%
more efficient than the 3.1Ah battery of the Tesla Model S. Using the same
number of cells in the 45kWh of the Model S they can very much go over 200
miles on a single charge.

Howard Marks says:

Childish much ? Well lets see they cost about the same to buy but one
pollutes the world and cost mad money to fill up while the other cost next
to nothing to power and gives a stress free ride and is based on the 21st
century not the 19th century.

eastbay5l0 says:

Motortrend only put tesla on their cover to help car sales, tesla profits
are at an all time low , with no net income profit to support its
shareholders, ive been in the uaw for 30+ years ,and from experience their
trying to hiide that they are struggling to sell, overpriced car , do not
invest unless u want to lose

Jjames763 says:

I have heard critics challenging Consumer Reports’ “best car” rating for
the model S by saying, in all seriousness, that Consumer Reports “doesn’t
know cars.” I assume those same critics will be saying that Motor Trend
“doesn’t know cars,” either.

Priyan De Silva says:

All good things come to those who wait. This mode of transportation will
become affordable and convenient for all demographics. Demand and
production are increasing rapidly, you will get yours a lot sooner than you
think (I am). The more we connect throughout the world via social media,
the better society becomes from the open dialogue we have with each other.
The Atlantic Ocean may divide our homes, but the power of the people is
planetary.

56camerashybry says:

Every time they raise the price of gasoline. It will be free advertisement
for electric cars!

ElZamo92 says:

Imagine a mid-size sedan with the same 85kWh battery and a smaller and more
efficient motor with a bit less punch, but in the price range of the
Accord. I’d immediately buy that.

DAN THORNHILL says:

Oh stop it!!!

VIRALITY says:

Steve is it you?

essab23 says:

Best car in the world

56camerashybry says:

True,Well at least this is a step in the right direction. No tail pipe smog.

Priyan De Silva says:

Thanks, that’s hilarious. I just got trolled. Damn, my age is showing.

Realty333 says:

Let me say it slowly: Eat S-a-l-m-o-n, it is good for brain power

56camerashybry says:

where i live it is hydro power .08 cents per kwh.

Pierre WATTRÉ says:

Troll who never drove any EV? You drive more than 230 miles x2 to commute
every day? (if so, you should change your job) I don’t care what you drive
or the price of your fuel. In Europe we pay up to $11/US gallon and main
cities struggle with air quality, so yes, Tesla is working for a better
future and are acting instead of just talking about it like too many people.

Priyan De Silva says:

You know what else is “impossible”? Driving a tesla through the Pan
American highway. Maybe in my lifetime.

eastbay5l0 says:

Im not gonna lie its a well thought car bought will not survive in this
economy

Jack Renauer says:

Being in the UAW for over 30 years gives you no experience regarding the
new revolution in car building. Your the major reason the domestic industry
was such crap for so long.

1225KPH says:

Tony stark was played by a drug addict.

Muskar says:

Since USA will be covered by 2015 I figure it won’t be too long before that
will be possible (through super chargers). Until then, you can still charge
it using a mobile charger, but of course it takes a lot longer. I would
like to see the plans for superchargers in Europe too though.

Sergio Marcelo says:

Elon is a great guy. He deserves it.

Alex Prehn says:

HELLO UNLIMITED RANGE quantamagnetics website or free enegy car Tesla
magnets motor what are they doing like hello

Gerry Crisostomo says:

Mr. Elon Musk, I would like to be a part of your company. I consider that
working in your company is the best job in the world.

CamiloSanchez1979 says:

It would be funny if in the future Tesla’s main competitor is some car
company named Edison.

Muskar says:

I do something similar so I can relate. When I speak I’m very focused at
thinking about the best way to say it so my audience can understand it and
takes it well. It requires a lot of thinking power to adapt all your
knowledge to people outside of the technical field and make it interesting.
I don’t mind that he does it. He’s very honest and caring in his speeches
and that’s the most important part for me.

celpabedn says:

great speech but dont say Tesla with the z, its s!

CYNTHIA MORALES-McGUIRE- GARCIA says:

O!M!G!! Amazing!

Joel Widengren says:

Tesla – Tesla – Tesla – Congratulation to one of the most important break
trough on the planet.

anderwan says:

Elon has said that Tesla’s goal is to speed up the electrification of
transport by 5 to 10 years. I LOVE a company who’s business plan is to
alter the timeline of history!

1225KPH says:

Dear Joel. The most important breakthrough on the planet will be designing
a power plant that doesn’t use oil, gas, coal or nuclear material and
pollute to generate all that dirty filthy power to charge the zero emission
Tesla. Keep dreaming and keep your nocturnal emissions to yourself.

222damien says:

Servicing this car is the only thing I worry about, the sooner this gets to
Europe the better.

DAN THORNHILL says:

Key words here,I’ll s—a—y it s-lo–w-ly coal powered electric
generating plants. Not coal powered tesla’s, they desperately electricity.
How is it everyone seems to think these ev cars are totally green.
