On this episode of Head 2 Head, presented by Tire Rack, Carlos Lago pits the Chevrolet Camaro SS against the new Ford Mustang GT. Not only are both packing around 430 horsepower, but they both have the most aggressive handling packages available with their respective performance packs. These cars have been going at it for longer than some of you watching have been alive, and they’ve never been better. And you actually think Ford doesn’t know that haaha they can easily bump
the power of the 5.0L to 450Hp to match the new LT1 powered Camaro.
the new GT350R already destroyed the z/28’s time by 5 seconds around the
nurburgring. GM doesn’t have a naturally aspirated engine that can match
Ford’s new 5.2L flat plane crank V8. That engine is a beast!!! Lol Ford has
once again showed the US who is the king of performance.

Has anyone noticed that the 1LE Camaro here just beat the time for the new
BMW M4 (and also Lexus RCF). And here there are still people that think
the M4 is faster than the Corvette.

To me the new mustang is a flop. I saw the concepts and was thoroughly
impressed, but then I see the final version and the looks are more like a
family sedan than a 2+2 sports car. And such a big deal is made over the
new IRS and it still gets stepped all over by a much older Camaro in need
of a redesign. Ford Fanboys always say “It was built for straight line”
like that is a valid argument. You gain only a tenth in the quarter over
the Camaro and it pounds you in every other performance category. Ford
could have done a lot better with this one. We shouldn’t have to pay the
big bucks for the Shelby to get a good performance car. Now let the Fanboy
rants begin.

Here’s what bugs me about this comparison, I’m a Ford guy, but Chevy got it
right. They delivered a purpose built track car that is relatively
affordable. They got it. Straight line performance is too one dimensional
for today’s market. Ford has this phenomenal engine and they keep missing
the mark on the chassis. Make it stick in the turns. The technology is
there, but I think Ford doesn’t really care at the moment. It’s like they
gave us the IRS just to keep us quiet. I’m still on the fence about the
looks too.

Put the same tires on the cars dipsh*ts. I see Race Tires on the Camaro
and pretty normal looking radials on the GT. Those tires wouldn’t last 5k
miles on the Camaro.

15 Mustang is just ugly now. The only one’s buying it are the loyal pony
buyers that feel obligated to buy one even though it just doesn’t look good
anymore. The fact is many would rather buy a newer uglier model than go to
a sworn enemy in GM or Dodge.

That new camaro is ass ugly, more than the stang. Trying to hard. To much
technology, if anyone can agree the most recent best looking stang and
performance has to be the 03/04 cobra. Simple, easy to work on, easy to
drive. And oh that IRS and cast iron block, the market for mods for that
generation is plentiful and very available. You see to many of the 06′ and
up camaros and mustangs. The last time I saw a beautiful cobra on the road
was about a year ago. It’s rare to see and has character. Not played out

Even just by watching the Camaro track you can tell its a more refined
driver’s machine but with some Mad Max thrown in, you can hear the quicker
gear throws and listen to how quick it all synch’s up, the engine sounds
like a toothy beast ready to slap its trap on anything less than what it
is, it makes the Mustang sound like a little boy’s toy to be honest, you
can see how unrefined and sloppy the Mustang is compared to it, not to
mention the looks of the Mustang. I was never really into the looks of the
Camaro but this is one beast of a car and it has done it’s homework in
comparison to the Mustang. Nice GM.

The SS got quicker, the GT got slower. lol… I’ll take a 2013/2014 5.0,
doing 0-60 in 4.4, 1/4 in 12.7, add a ProCharger, intake, exhaust, tune and
some stickier, wider meat out back. Will be running mid 11’s no problemo.
Pretty sure 90% of people who own these cars don’t go to a track anyway, so
all that extra handling is pure bunk, and it’s not like the Mustang is some
sort of terrible handing car to begin with… lol… I do like the way the
new Camaro looks a LOT better, however…

Gm hasnt stepped up there game. They just come out with alot of cars at
once. Thats why there beating most cars. The gt350 and the new shelby hasnt
come out. Thats whats going to change america perspective about ford. The
gt could of definitely done better but i think it was just the tires that
it had in this video that needed a change. Most of what i can say is that
if you buy a gm vehicle you wont be as happy as if you were to buy a ford.
Gm has more expensive vehicles that aren’t worth the money such as gmc
vehicles. Just go to ford and buy a luxurious vehicle for thousands less.
The mustang always dominates the camaro. Gm is just scared that ford will
come up with something better. Thats why there always making cars left and
right. The camaro just came out this year. Now there making another for
2016. That proves that they cant hold their game.

Too bad the Mustang turned out to be an even bigger fat-ass than the older
ones, and not the lighter, nimbler one we were hoping for. Worse weight
distribution too.

At least the rear end isn’t as hideous as the previous generation. And the
Camaro, fair or not, just can’t shake its cheeseball image. Chevy should
have gone to a truly retro design and made the smaller, lighter car that
Ford failed to deliver, while upgrading its interior. Come on, GM, why is
your driving experience so tacky and rattle-infested?

The fact of the matter is, both are cool, but I’ll still take the Camaro.

And I’ve seen both up close, thanks to the Ford & Chevy dealers where I
live.

I’ve had a white 1LE pass me on the street as they shift into 3rd and blow
me away with that sweet Exhaust blip from the quad tips.

It surprises me that the GT would cost almost 5 grand more than a 1LE which
is basically an SS with a bunch of ZL1 parts, performance suspension of
front & rear stabilizer bars, 3.91 gears, a 6-speed, ZL1 wheels/tires &
good brakes.

L.A. has a lot of straight streets, but once you leave Downtown, you gotta
make turns, especially in urban neighborhood areas in L.A. County and lots
of other cities that have curves and winding uphill and downhill roads.
Even the freeways have curves with cars going past 90 MPH when no highway
patrol or cameras are around.

I’d really like a GT painted in Highland Green to tribute Steve McQueens
1967 Fastback AKA BULLITT.

And a Black 1LE for when I take my McQueen sport coat off.

I think Motor Trend has a slight bias toward Chevy and some reasons are
that in this review he did mention that the mustang gained a lot of weight
in its generation switch at 1:42 and said that there was a slight weight
difference but he failed to make cleat that the mustang gained independent
rear suspension and was STILL lighter than the camaro. At 2:05 you can see
that the tire width and compound is way more aggressive on the camaro then
the mustang, but after the lap times he didn’t state the obvious of why the
camaro was faster. Also he did say that they were both there respective
track pack so the playing field was level but there was a $5,000 price gap
and the camaro is obviously much more of a track car and the mustang was
pretty much standard with a few add-on race bits. Lastly in the Best
Drivers Car a camaro won. I’m not saying that a camaro can never win but it
did beat a Porsche 911 turbo, which was clearly much more driver focused,
and yet they didn’t say why it was so much better than the Porsche or the
Alfa

Put the the same shocks, sway bar and tires on the Mustang,as on the
Camaro. The Mustang wins. Remember the Camaro performance package is
$1000.00 more than the Mustang. Add a $1000.00 dollars more to Mustangs
performance package making it dollar for dollar equal.

I’ve been around since Camaro TPI’s and Mustang 5.0’s (Fox Body) went down
on the streets. In today’s terms, “Turd” is the best description those ever
received. To see how much they’ve changed is an understatement… They’ve
revolutionized! What we spent HOURS of work on upgrading, they now offer
for a certain sticker price…

Give the Mustang a break! It’s a first for the Mustang to have IRS, and
Ford needs time to get it in shape, I have created a short list of what
Ford needs to do to get the Mustang back in the game: Weight reduction(alot
of it) , bigger and stickier tires, brake tuning and much much stiffer
suspension. And maybe a functional aero package.

ok heres what i don’t understand why did mt test 1le against the gt
instead of the regular ss the 1le was a was a track pack all the mustang gt
is a upscale model why not test a boss or gt350 against it but i guess
thats mt for ya they tested a zl1 against a boss 302 laguna no comparison

Honestly, ford just needs to give the mustang some beefy ass tires like the
camaro 1le, thats the only reason that the camaro handles slightly better,
with the same tires, the mustang will outhandle, and outbrake.

lighter wheels and strut stuff was “stupid ricer stuff” us import guys put
on cars, now it’s optional equipment on everything including stangs and

I crashed my new 2015 Mustang GT, When I slammed my brakes, They locked up
and I couldn’t stop in time. I brought this up to the dealer, They said the
brakes aren’t the problem because they’re “Tested” before being delivered
to the dealer, So I’m glad you mentioned that.

It sucks too, The brakes work wonderfully, Until you ACTUALLY need them.

Great review, I really enjoy these showdowns between these 2 legends and
adding all them gadgets to see the g’s and revs with speed makes it pretty
cool. I gotta say I love both of these names but lately I haven’t been a
fan of the camaro design, looks too flat, I really hope the general makes a
few changes. Ford on the other hand has finally made beautiful horse,
really digging that design.
